A team of Copreci who were Nashville on the occasion of the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Expo (HPBExpo) scooped their prize as finalists in the Vesta Awards, in the category of Innovative Hearth Products. Gathering thousands of trade members every year, HPB Expo is the largest event in the sector in the Americas.
For the 2015 edition, Copreci introduced its newly developed –DETECTOFF- a system that shuts off the gas flow when a smoke or CO problem is detected. It communicates with sensors that emit wirelessly via ZigBee or other protocols. The system consists of a patented valve with an electronic module that communicates with a smoke or CO detector and shuts off the gas. Detectoff is provided with batteries, but the consumption is so low that can last years without any maintenance.
Instead of just informing or alarming , Copreci’s solution acts directly on one of the potential causes of the problem avoiding the explosion risk. DETECTOFF is safe because once the gas flow has been closed, it needs a manual operation for setting it up again.

The Conference of the Higher Council of Cooperatives of Euskadi was presided by Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, who highlighted the importance of Cooperatives' commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, objectives that contribute to sustainable economic growth and quality employment, always with the person at the center of their activity.
According to Urkullu, the cooperative model works and demonstrates that placing the person at the center is the best instrument to gain efficiency and competitiveness in a global market. "This model focuses on the person, reinvests in their environment and seeks maximum well-being"
Recognition of cooperatives who have turned 50 years
The act, in turn, served to recognize the work done by 69 Euskadi cooperatives, which have completed more than 50 years. Nearly half of those cooperatives recognized in the act belong to MONDRAGON Corporation. Its presidents received recognition on behalf of the entire group of these cooperatives. -

Within the range of Ecook induction generators, Copreci launches a new wireless communication system between the induction hob and the hood, called CleanHood.
Using this system, the user can select the operating mode of the hood between manual or fully automatic.
In automatic mode, the hood is ligthed when the induction hob is swithed on and aspiration rate is synchronized to the selected cooking power. Depending on the time of operation, the hood can stay lit extra time and turn off automatically. Thus, the user need not touch the bell, also avoiding soiling.
Having a two-way wireless transmission, it opens the possibility that the hood with the appropriate sensors, tell the counter of humidity, temperature and even smoke and can act accordingly, for example before a miss a flaming pan turning off the countertop. This results in greater ease and safety of use by providing more comfort to the user.

Copreci was represented at the Zhuhai International Half Marathon, that took place last 15th December. Steven and Peter, both workers at Copreci China, participated and showed proudly the Copreci 50 years flag, as we can see in the picture.
This is the fifth edition of this international half-marathon and more than 23,000 athletes, coming from different countries such us the United States, Belgium, Kenya, Morocco, China and other 25 countries ran this year.

Copreci has recently added a new language to its website: Chinese. The need for this new language has resulted from the growing importance of the Asian market to Copreci.
“We want to cater to every customer in this geographical area, who just like everyone else attaches high value on being able to access information in their own language”. A corporate video has also recently been created in Chinese.
Copreci’s first production plant in China was set up in 2004 to manufacture barbecue components and supply its customers in the Zhuhai area, in the south of the country near Macao. Copreci also currently manufactures pressure cooker valves and motor pumps for the washing industry.

A small tour led this group of Koreans, manufacturers of household appliances, to know closely the cooperatives that manufacture components for the gas and electric cookers, Copreci and Eika respectively.
The delegation also visited the facilities of Acede, where the latest innovations in the cooking world of these companies are presented, as well as Mondragón Corporation, Fagor Electrónica and Stirling Center, to conclude at the Basque Culinary Center.

We love to receive visits like these... Within the GEHIKOOP Project, of collaboration of several cooperatives of MONDRAGON Corporation with Mundukide Fundazioa, we have received the visit of 2 members of the Coopan Cooperative from Brazil.
This cooperative is located in Nova Santa Rita, near Porto Alegre, and is dedicated to organic and sustainable agriculture and livestock. Several members are collaborating in the development of its activity, within the projects of social transformation that we want to promote from Copreci.
The visit has served to strengthen relationships with other cooperative realities and reaffirm our commitment to projects of social transformation and sustainability.

Brinkmann Corporation will provide Copreci with financial compensation for sales made to date and obtain authorisation to continue using the Copreci dual solution in the future
Both parties reached an agreement after the lawsuit brought against the multinational by Aretxabaleta Co-op for patent violation with Georgia North District Court in the US.
The patents subject to the lawsuit: US 7, 950,384 B2, US 8,282,390 B2 and US 8,449,289 B2, refer to dual valve cooking appliances that use both natural and liquid gas. This dual solution gives manufacturers the great advantage of offering a single valid model for both gases instead of having to offer a model for each gas type.
During the lawsuit brought on 5th December 2012, an extremely favourable situation arose for Copreci, in which the Court clearly supported the arguments presented by MONDRAGON Corporation in relation to the existence of said violation.
In view of this situation, the parties reached an agreement and dismissed the legal proceedings. By virtue of this agreement, Brinkmann Corporation will provide Copreci with financial compensation for sales made to date and obtain authorisation to continue using the Copreci dual solution in the future. Furthermore, Brinkmann Corporation will have to mark their products with Copreci patent numbers and indicate on their website that these products are sold under the Copreci patent licence.
Similar cases
This is not the first time that Copreci has won a patent conflict against a US giant. Three years ago an out-of-court agreement was reached with the multinational company Coleman, which had been selling Copreci cooking appliances without its consent, thereby violating US patent 7,174,913 B2 for a gas tap that produces touch and sound readings similar to those produced by Hi-Fi equipment controls. Coleman agreed to compensate Copreci for sales made to date and cease manufacturing and selling the infringing product.

The amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (known as WEEE or e-waste) generated every year in the EU is increasing rapidly.
Copreci, in its commitment to the circular economy, is immersed in the WEEE-Loop project, an initiative in collaboration with Circular Replay, ExxitaBeCircular and the Emaus Foundation, which seeks the selective recovery of parts and components in the appliance industry.
This project has been selected for funding in the framework of the PERTE de Economía Circular del MITECO through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the NextGen European Funds. WEEE-Loop aims to demonstrate the technological potential of this solution to increase the current rates of reuse of household appliances, recovering parts and components that will be reintroduced into the ValueChain, with its Circpass circularity certificate.

Copreci S.Coop. celebrated its 50 anniversary, with an emotional ceremony, that will not be easy to forget. The General Assembly served to approve the Strategic Plan, but mostly it was a tribute to the first Board of Governors and all - cooperative partners who have made this project possible.
The event included live music, a video where the main protagonists were several partners, and was presented and energized by TPA.

Copreci S. Coop, one of the world leader manufacturer of components for household appliances, has closed an agreement to purchase all the assets of the valve production process from the Italian manufacturer, Defendi S.r.l., a subsidiary of the E.G.O.-Group.
This agreement strengthens the leading position in the gas cooking appliance business for both companies; Copreci's in the gas valves and Defendi in terms of gas burners.
As stated by Imanol Oleaga, Managing Director of Copreci Group, "In such a complex context as the current one, Copreci is approaching this operation as a way of guaranteeing the growth challenges we face in the field of gas cooking, strengthening our position in traditional markets and reinforcing our commitment to new markets. This agreement will bring more possibilities to gas appliance manufacturers".

Representatives of China Gas, came to the Basque Country to participate on the Technical Committee organized by Copreci, together with Aenor. During this stay, Copreci invited them to visit its facilities in Aretxabaleta.
The Technical Committee ISO / TC 161 on control and protective devices for gas and/or oil burners and appliances, that was held throughout last week at the Torre Iberdrola - Bilbao, was created in 1974, with the scope of standardization in the field of control and protective devices for burners and appliances using gas and/or oil. This includes residential, commercial and industrial installations.

The visit to Copreci was included in the European tour that this association is carrying out. The Zhejiang Gas Association is an entity composed of component manufacturers such as Xintao and leading companies in the Chinese market, such as Robam and Fotile, as well as other component manufacturers and companies related to this type of household appliances.
After a working meeting, the delegation formed by more than 20 people, toured the production facilities of Copreci, to end with a visit to the SZUKALDATZEN LAB, the innovation laboratory of the cooking industry that ACEDE has at the Garaia R&D pole.

The domestic appliance components specialist, COPRECI and the Basque Cluster Association (ACEDE) jointly organized the innovation session "Stir and Taste 2017” a meeting of several companies and organizations in the food, cooking and gastronomy sector to stimulate collaborative innovation among members and other entities of the food value chain.
